Jack Flannery March 17, 1941—February 24, 2008

Jack Flannery, President of the National Space Science & Technology Institute passed away on February 24th, 2008. Under Jack's stewardship, NSSTI championed space science and technology through research & development, education, and public outreach programs. Prior to NSSTI, Jack had been Executive Director of the internationally recognized United States Space Foundation. Jack elevated the Foundation into an internationally recognized space advocacy organization.

Jack served in the United States Air Force for 27 years before retiring in the grade of Colonel. Among his many assignments were as an F-4 fighter squadron commander, Air Force Academy Group Commander, Director of Training, Evaluation and Standardization for Air Force Space Command, Assistant Chief of Staff for Air Force Space Command, Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans and Operations for the United States Air Force Academy. He was a command pilot with more than 3,100 flying hours in numerous aircraft types.

Jack is survived by his wife, Susan; his three children and their spouses, Kellee and Sean White, Michael and Kristin Flannery, and Stephen and Allison Flannery; and his eleven grandchildren, all of Colorado Springs.
